I agree! When GA first started doing that, I thought it was a little lame, but the safety issue seems to be very real. And I do love having the chance to take my kids to the polls and have the grow up thinking that voting is just something you do, most natural thing in the world!

Oh, that would make me so frustrated! Honestly, I don't think I expect anyone to do more than show up at the polls, but after hundreds of years of fighting to get the right--for everyone, of any sex or race or financial background--to vote, we really should all feel honored and grateful to get to pull that lever.

I've always felt it was a great honor to vote and was so pleased when my state lowered the voting age to 18 many years ago. I always took my kids with me when they were little and am so mad now that one of them chooses not to vote, mostly out of sheer laziness, I think. His wife is a naturalized citizen from a country where it is against the law NOT to vote - and she chose not to vote this year either! Grrr!

How neat that the students have the day off, and I know that my kids would be busy participating. I'm not voting till this afternoon so they can go with me and then we will be standing roadside and waving to support a dear friend running for sheriff. Then tonight we will go to the county courthouse to watch the vote tallies. :) My kids at 6 and 8 already have a basic understanding of the system and I think that's important to develop a strong civic responsibility.
