Patterns

Whipstitch Patterns are original designs based on garments and projects I’ve been making for my children and myself over the years, including some that were sold through my children’s clothing company, Pretty Jane.  Each one has been crafted by hand, and is a pleasure to make.  I’ve written the instructions and designed the pattern pieces specifically so that you don’t need years and years of sewing experience in order to construct each project–patterns should lead you through a project, not force you to take a graduate course just to follow the instructions!  I hope you love the shapes and making each one, and will add your finished project photos to the Whipstitch Flickr group!

The Overmost

I have a long-standing weakness for overalls.  All my children have worn them to death as they were growing up.  We live in the Deep South, though, summer can be long and fierce, and that seriously limits overall season.  Enter: the Overmost.  Not short-alls, because they aren’t short all over–they’re also not over “all,” they’re over MOST!

This pattern is an excellent way to begin learning the geometry of making pants, but without the tricky issue of fitting waistlines and crotch length.  With it’s clean lines and simple bib, this style is perfect for boys or girls, and can be embellished in almost any way you can imagine!

Pattern comes in sizes 12 months through 4T, with two length options: the Overmost summer length, and the Overall fall and winter length.  Three pocket variations are included.  Overmost can be constructed to be lined or reversible!

The Pinafore

One of my favorite styles for girls is one that’s super versatile, can be worn all year long in many ways, and lasts as they grow.  The Pinafore does all these, and is crazy cute, to boot.  Simple styling in the squared neckline is flattering on every shape, and the variability in length leads to plenty of variation.  Add pockets and trims, and you’ve got one pattern that can be used to build an entire wardrobe.

The pattern, in sizes 12 months through 5T, includes three lengths: top length, tunic length, and jumper length.  Any or all of them can be worn alone, over a t-shirt, or under a sweater; combined with shorts, pants or skirts; and are sized to stay in her wardrobe for three years or more.
