GIVEAWAY: Vintage Buttons from Whipstitch! CLOSED
I’m delighted to be part of the Sew, Mama, Sew Giveaway Days today and offer up some of our delicious vintage buttons for your sewing and crafting pleasure! I discovered these at Quilt Market in Houston, and grabbed massive bagsful to whisk away home with me. To be honest, I really couldn’t get enough–they’re absolutely divine, for reals. The ladies and I have been busily carding them up at the shop for you to take home with you to admire and hoard and plan to use in a zillion different ways. Delicious!
I have more than a little bit of a crush on these buttons. They were all rescued from an abandoned warehouse in Manhattan, the boxes of cardboard crumbling around the pristine buttons, all of which date to 1960 or earlier. They’re made of wood, glass, metal, mother-of-pearl, shell, and they’re all beautiful and weighty and smoothly lovely under my fingers.

I have loved buttons since I was a little girl and we visited a button factory. Rumor has it, on that road trip from Atlanta to California, all I did was play with a paper bag of button “offs” from the factory.

I love buttons. Ever since I was a kid, I was amazed at the big jar of buttons my mother kept in her sewing room. Your vintage buttons are amazing. I would either save them for a special dress or put them on a purse or bag as accents.

Aren’t vintage buttons irresistible? I’m always jealous of women who have their grandmother’s button jars. I would probably use these on little knitted button vests I’ve been making for my 4-year old daughter (Like the ones Mary and Laura are wearing in the old Little House Christmas shows). She wears the same 2 every day.

Ohhh – I have a pattern for a little girl dress that I want to make with pretty buttons adorning the neckline. Not functional, but to embellish the dress.
I also need some buttons for the back of a musicbox dress for my daughter – and I’m so picky about having nice buttons. I must get down to your shop to buy some!

I’ve always wanted to have a large glass jar filled with colorful buttons to accent my new sewing space! Perhaps if I won, that would be my impetus to buy shelving unit to install in sewing space and then start to fill said glass jar! I could see myself accenting some cute pencil cases with these beauties!

MAD for Vintage.
For their usage, it would depend what you sent because ‘fab’ buttons
are very independent creatures. They attach themselves to a project, not the other way around. LOL! I sew several things I could envision
them on; 1 my wool, warp-once, buttoned neck-let (to keep the neck warm. 2:My mid length and wrist length wool fingerless arm warmers.
These are both fitted, buttoned and would use vintage like fabrics and trims.

Oh I adore vintage buttons!
Of course I would hoard some, because that is what we do with vintage lovelies, after all.

I would stash them away in my button storage boxes, by color, until a sewing or craft project beckoned them. I’d put them on appliques where I just used them to decorate a Christmas tree, or outfits for my grandchildren. . Or they may just be a playtoy when my granddaughter comes and we get out the plastic ice tray for her to play and sort some buttons!
